We celebrated my mom’s 60th birthday, my parents’ 40th anniversary, and mother’s day a few weekends ago. We had a card shower for my parents, and the response was overwhelming. People wrote words of encouragement, shared stories/memories, and sent cards to let them know they were thinking of them. It was so cool to see. I still need to take time to sit down and look through them all. So, thank you to all who participated!
On that Saturday, we met around 11am to hang out at their house. They had put up a zip line, and some of the cousins had yet to try it. Some of us (usually Luke and Ben and Dad) were relegated to manning the zip line for the kids. We had a light lunch, although I use that term loosely since there were sandwiches, pasta salad, jello salad, veggies, fruit bowl, chips, and dessert. After everyone was fed, the kids hit the sprinkler; the weather was just right, and they were itching to get wet!
Around 4pm, we sent the kids off to various homes to play, while we had an adults only night. It is nice to sit and talk and not be interrupted. We did this because so often while we talk, mom and dad are off playing with the kids. We wanted them to be able to sit and enjoy some coversation as well! We provided a meal of bbq shredded pork, baked beans, cole slaw, and lunch time leftovers. We ended with hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookies (delicious… here is the link) and ice cream. It was a great day of celebrating family.
