Our church planned a family outing to go see the Akron RubberDucks (minor league baseball team). We signed up to go. Jeremy likes baseball; I like sitting outside watching people and talking. The night was absolutely beautiful. There was a men’s van – Dave, Ray, Lyle, and Jeremy. And a women and children van – Sandy, me, Madison, Ellie, Cait, and Tessa. The children got to enjoy Frozen on the way up and back to make the ride go just a little faster. Sandy and I enjoyed catching up. The men did whatever it is men do when riding together in a van.
When we got there, there was some kind of even going on outside of the stadium. There was a traveling farm there to let city kids interact and see farm animals. While we see many of these anyways, the girls couldn’t resist!
Once inside, the first of a double-header finished up while we settled in. (The only downside to the night is we thought the game was starting at 7:00 and it started more like 8pm, which made for a much later end to the night.) Madison and Ellie each had a slice of pizza. Then, while the field was being prepped for the second game, the mascots walked around saying hello. Ellie had talked about this moment all day, the whole ride, and when we got there. So, she and Madison headed down to the field with me to say hi. Madison was very excited. Ellie not so much. You can see her (brown pants, pink shirt, blond hair) in the picture of Madison and the mascot running away from it in the background. She wanted nothing to do with it. At all.
Eventually, we ate popcorn, watched the game, added layers of clothing, and finally indulged in their very first experience with Dippin’ Dots – cotton candy flavor.
We managed to barely stay awake until the end, revive for the fireworks display, and walk back to the van. It was a good, but long night after a long week of school.
