My plan is to roll out about 6 blogs in the course of about 2 days. I told my kids the reason I haven’t been blogging is that 1) I am busy, and 2) the things that I’ll post about aren’t earth shattering; they are everyday moments for the most part and so they are easy to gloss over or put off. But the time has come.
The girls were about to go out with a Grandma Yoh and the Bricker great aunts and 1st cousins once removed (?) the other day. I think this is so cool because I don’t even recall knowing my great aunts. I am sure my parents would tell me that we got together at reunions and such, but I don't remember actually knowing them or doing anything with them. That said, my memories are not always long-lasting. I am glad my kids are having this opportunity to know Jeremy’s aunts and a few of my aunts and uncles as well.
Fall leaf raking is not always what people enjoy about the fall. We have no leaves to rake at our current house. So, the girls had just been lamenting that they had no leaves to jump in when Grandma and Grandpa called up and asked if we could come help them out. Prayers answered! It was a beautiful day to head over and haul off the leaves they already had in piles for us. The girls raked, jumped, hid, and played in the piles and piles of leaves.
Every year we get to do one of my favorite things: the Thanksgiving day service and sale. I enjoy hearing the thankfulness expressed at the service and the songs people choose to praise God. I like seating next to my friends and bidding – this year on a lot of things I did not win! I relish the sounds of people mingling and catching up and relaxing together.. at church.. on a holiday. And I like knowing the kids have a place to create and sticker and draw because of a donation from a family in our church. It is just good. The only picture I have from the entire day is the annual photo that Ellie takes with my friend, Sandy.
After volleyball season ended, I decided that I should do what I have been thinking of doing for awhile now: have the girls each pick a meal and prepare a meal every week. So, we started about a month ago, and it has been really good. Like, literally, it has been delicious. But it has also been good in that it relieves the burden of meal planning from me, I get to be a sous chef twice a week, and they are learning skills. Here is a small sampling of what they have chosen: creamy sausage rigatoni, salmon, chicken pot pie with biscuits, ravioli bake, chicken pesto sandwiches, and Doritos taco bake. I love that they pick things that sound good to them, and we get to see their tastes.
And then there is Pepper…
