A Field Trip

I love that my brother is a firefighter/paramedic because we get really cool field trips to the station at least once a year – if we ask nicely!  This time, we went when he wasn’t on shift which freed him up to just spend time with us and not worry about a call.  (One year we went and the tones went and he had to leave in a hurry.)  Our friends from church Katie and Daniel have a little boy who loves trucks.  He was the catalyst for this field trip, and we came along for the ride!

This year, we saw the ladder truck.  The kids were able to climb up into the bucket (not while it was raised).

All the kids held the firehose, the jaws of life (now battery operated and much easier to maneuver), and other tools.

They also sat in the firetruck.  This time some of them tried out the jump seats in the back, and Luke let them wear the headsets to talk to each other.  Pretty cool.

We moved on to the ambulance next.  It is amazing how much equipment is available on there.  There was a paramedic that came out a bit into our tour and was checking the kids blood oxygen levels and heart rates.

Of course, we went to the station to see where Luke sleeps, eats, hangs out, and how he slides down the pole!

After all this excitement, we went to the park for a picnic and play time.  The adults joined in on the fun trying out monkey bars (some of us were more successful than others… and when I say “us,” I don’t mean me!)

It was a good day for kids and adults alike.
