Swimming Fun

This summer, Ellie has finally decided that she can put her hold body under water.  Up until June, she wouldn’t get her head wet and didn’t like it much when her face got wet.  Something finally clicked and she started trying new things.  Her confidence continuing to grow throughout the summer.

Then, in late July, Madison and Ellie both took swim lessons at Orr Pool.  They had to do water bobs to start the class off, and I breathed a sigh of relief that Ellie wasn’t going to freak out.  Both girls did a great job learning knew skills.  They both surprised us when they walked to the end of the diving board – the low one and then the high-ish one – and jumped off without any persuasion techniques needed.  We were so proud of them!  By the last day of class, they jumped in without a floatie AND more importantly, without any lifeguard to catch them and swam by themselves to the ladder.  It really was amazing.  They didn’t end up passing level 2; they still need some practice with floats and swim strokes, but they made great progress.

That experience set them up to be brave on their first tube ride during SYF’s senior send-off.  Ellie stuck with the seated inflatables, but Madison braved the tube when there were seven kids that wanted to go at the same time!  They loved it so much!

I am looking forward to next summer and what they might be able to learn in the water!
