Our Getaway

Jeremy and I decided to take this past weekend to head to Columbus.  I saw an opportunity through Ohio Educator’s Association for tickets to the Columbus Blue Jacket’s hockey game – buy 1, get 1 ticket free, a free hat, and $5 credit for food.  It sounded like a sweet deal.  So, we made a weekend of it – finish Christmas shopping, game, overnight getaway.  It was a win-win.

We left around 9:30 on Saturday.  We made a few stops to pick up some local gifts.  Then, hit the big shops in Columbus.  I had forgotten how many stores (and people) there are down there.  It was fun to just look around and have time to think while shopping.  We actually knocked out our list pretty efficiently, but we were still shopping for the whole day.  We did take a lunch break for some surprisingly delicious food from Whole Foods.

We took a brief moment before eating to quickly check in to our hotel.  We sat for a whopping 20 minutes max before we needed to head out again.  We also had supper at Sweet Carrots, a restaurant Jeremy saw featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on TV.  It was pretty tasty.  This is us there – selfie alert…

Then, we headed to the hockey game.  There are good views, even when you are high up.

Unfortunately, the Jackets lost in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks 2-1.

But, we did stay for the slap shot on the ice afterwards.  This meant we got to go down to the main ice, walk out, and take one shot at the goal.  I whiffed at my first attempt, so I got to swing again.. made it in!  Jeremy hit the puck the first time, but narrowly missed the goal.  It was fun to go down on the ice.

Back to the hotel at 11pm.  Late night!

Up and at ‘em for a hotel breakfast, and then off to IKEA.  We shopped forever there looking for nothing in particular until we were inspired and then took forever making some decisions.  Almost couldn’t cram our item into our already stuffed car.  But we did…

Made it home by 3pm.

My parents were kind enough to watch our girls from Saturday morning until mid-afternoon on Sunday.  We were so thankful for that!
