Baby Dedication

Today was Mother’s day which is a very special day.  But even better was that we were able to dedicate Ellie at church.  At our church, babies are dedicated instead of baptized.  It is a service in which the parents promise to do their job of raising the child to know God’s love, and the church promises to help raise the child in the same way.  Later in the life of the child, they choose whether they want to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior by being baptized.  I like doing it this way.  I feel that it is a public commitment that we, as parents, are making and will be held accountable for.  And it allows the child to decide whether Christ is the Lord of their life, rather than feeling like it was thrust upon them as an infant.  The photos from the service are bad because 1) I was using my point and shoot, and 2) it was really dark in there.  Here are the best pictures:

Both sets of Ellie’s grandparents came to the service as well as Nate and Jen’s family.  It was really short notice, so we were happy some family could be there.  It was also nice to have both our mothers here on Mother’s day to honor them.  We had intended on playing at the park and having a picnic lunch, but the weather did not cooperate.  We did get to the park for about 30 minutes, but ate inside.  It actually worked out just fine and was a great day.

Here is a few pics of kids eating and Ellie in her dress while getting a diaper change.

The only down side… Ellie had started a cold on Friday and was up from about 1:30am til morning with Jeremy and I sleeping on and off on our chests.  It made for a miserable night.  We took her to urgent care on Sunday afternoon to make sure that she didn’t have anything more serious than a cold – she didn’t.  I took her (with my mom) to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Close to Home Urgent Care.  They were a-ma-zing!  I was incredibly impressed with how quickly we were seen, how thorough they were, and how friendly they were.  Kudos to them!
