Since I went back to teaching last year, I have been less available to be a part of fun things my kids to do in their classrooms. I did put my name in to be a chaperone for Ellie’s field trip to the McKinley Museum. It is a lottery drawing, so I wasn’t sure if I would be able to go, but I was lucky enough to be picked! I put in for a personal day away from middle schoolers and headed for a day filled with first graders!
I decided to drive myself up instead of riding the bus. Ellie said she didn’t really care, and I thought my car is much more comfortable than a bus.
Shortly after I arrived, the caravan of buses arrived with 70 or so first graders. I was with Ellie’s group as they explored the dinosaurs and ancient cultures, interacted with living creatures, experimented with science concepts,
and journeyed back in time.
After all their learning, the weather cooperated just enough to be able to run the 107 (?) steps of the McKinley Memorial.
Even though I was still with kids, my personal day was a fun one!
